I want to highlight a really insightful podcast called the Laura Dowling Podcast, Laura's guests are usually qualified scientists doctors and practitioners in some scientific field, sharing their experiences and learnings in their speciality, she focuses a lot on health and longevity. The latest episode features Sophie Morris. Sophie has become an I nstagram sensation going into supermarkets and explaining food labels, suggesting clever swaps and calling out big brands for misleading marketing.

On this podcast Sopie shares her experiences as a small food brand owner (which she was over a decade ago) and the challenges of competing with large multinational companies. Because of these challenges she eventually gave up and sold the company. In this podcast Sophie mentions us at Velvet Cloud and a very unfair situation we found ourselves in a few years ago. Despite having four live yogurt cultures in our yogurt and NOTHING ADDED and NOTHING STRAINED AWAY we were made take the line "Digestion Friendly" off our yogurt packaging !! Yet we sit beside brands like Activia who say "Number 1 Gut Health Brand " or Actimel who say " Immune Support". When I questioned the unfairness of this I was told the multi national brands I had mentioned were outside the Irish inspectorates jurisdiction !! Its just one of the many reasons it is so hard to succeed in the food business if you are a small Irish brand. Anyhow have a listen to the pod its really interesting if you are interested in the whole world of nutrition, health and food marketing.
