This weekend gone was one of fun and laughter while still being a working weekend. We attended the Blas na hEireann Irish food Awards, held every year and now in its 18th year! The best and the most delicious of Irish foods enter and the really good ones make it to the final, which takes place in Dingle Co Kerry, not the easiest of spots to get to from our farm in Mayo but its worth the journey. We get to meet lots of other small food companies like ourselves, so we can share the trials and challenges of doing business in Ireland, which is like informal therapy but fun at the same time. We also get to meet our customers, who have been supporting us on our journey and its great to be ablel to chat to them informally and it helps build relationships.
The judging takes place during the summer and is through blind tasting using judges who are foodie experts, so there is no bias in the process other than if a product tastes delicious. We were thrilled that our Velvet Cloud Soft Sheep’s cheese got awarded silver at the awards on Friday. This award winner is available via La Rousse foods (called Labneh) to restaurants around Ireland but unfortunately only available to consumers online or in the very few health stores that stock it. So a quick note to health stores you could get a head of everyone and order it from Irish Independent Health Foods.
You can from the photos here which clearly show how it’s the easiest “work weekend” of the year.
