We've just finished up another breeding round here on the farm, which means in about 149 days we'll have fields full of cute baby lambs again.
For those who don't know much about sheep farming, ewes produce milk for roughly six months after lambing, then naturally dry up. This is why we stagger our breeding throughout the year – we need different flocks lambing at different times to keep a steady supply of fresh milk flowing for all the shops stocking Velvet Cloud yogurt.
It was one of those perfect evenings tonight, so I went out to the fields and got a quick video of "the lads" doing what they do best with the girls. Their job description is pretty straightforward, and let's just say they take their responsibilities seriously. Once breeding season wraps up, it's back to their usual routine of eating, sleeping, and looking handsome, and you can see how handsome they are below.
On another note, we've got Rockfield sheep's cheese back in stock – it won't last long. As more people discover Velvet Cloud yogurt (which still surprises and delights us), we're using more milk for yogurt production, leaving less available for cheesemaking. So if Rockfield is your thing grab it while you can, you have been warned.
